130 commercial growers producing between 2,500 � 3,500 tonnes annually.

Fresh fruit estimated at $8-10 million in 2008-9 (farm gate in $), down from $10-12 million in 2007-8.
Processed pulp estimated at 500 tonnes annually valued at $200k.

Grower Base




 

QLD 70% increasing, NSW 25% decreasing.
- Wide Bay estimated at 35% of national production
- Far north Qld (Mareeba, Daintree, Cooktown, Wet tropics) 25% estimated.
- SE Qld (Nambour and surrounds) 10% estimated.
- Northern NSW (Tweed Valley) 25% estimated.
- WA (Perth and surrounds), NT less than 5%.

Production 

Vines planted annually in far north Qld, 2-4 year basis elsewhere.

Varieties

 

Passiflora edulis and P. flavicarpa hybrids. Tropical aka Panamas focussed around Cooktown, Mareeba and the wet tropical coast;
Purple passionfruit (more P. edulis character) widespread from FNQld to NSW.
